Thank God for music.
Curated tunes for old and young
A delicious recipe of endless permutation
Of beats, of strums and playful hums.
Songs of romance
Songs of might
Songs of all those men in strife.
Songs of grit
Songs of old
Songs that make my mood all right.
Sing to me those songs, I pray.
In this long night, as I lay
On old dead ochre grass—
Helpless.
Play me some of that good music.
Thank God for poetry.
In the rhyming schemes
And the rhythmic verses
Into profound depths my muse immerses
A weary pilgrim, a wounded soldier;
Spent and bent to the whims and mercies
Of soi-disant judges and callous overlords,
My essence finds utterance
In poignant line breaks.
Lull me a lullaby as I sleep,
And don’t you break my slumber deep
In this long night, as I lay
On old dead ochre grass—
Read to me some sweet poetry.
